This website is hosted on Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA; delivery via Cloudflare data centres in the EU). When pages are requested, server log files are processed automatically (IP address, timestamp, requested pages, amount of data transferred, browser and operating-system identifier). The legal basis is our legitimate interest in secure and reliable operation of the site, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Retention: We do not store these log files and have no access to the raw data. Cloudflare processes them solely to operate the site securely and deletes them according to its own retention policy, typically within a few days. We do not perform any further analysis.
Transfer to the USA: Cloudflare, Inc. is based in the USA. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework; in addition, we have a data-processing agreement with Cloudflare that incorporates the EU Commission's standard contractual clauses (Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR). Galino was intentionally built without server infrastructure of our own. There is no user account, no sign-in and no automatic data transmission to us or to third parties.
What the app processes: your sound compositions (the mixes you create), your settings (e.g. slider values, chosen world, volumes) and the tones you record or import yourself (audio files). These contents stay locally on your device.
Microphone: Galino uses the microphone only when you actively record a tone yourself. There is no automatic or unnoticed recording. Recordings are stored locally on your device only and are used as a sound source within the app; they are not transmitted to us or to third parties. Instead of recording, you can also import an existing audio file (e.g. the audio track of a video or Live Photo) — this also stays local. If you pick a Live Photo from your photo library, your system may ask once for access to the photo library; Galino only reads the audio track of the recording you chose — no images or videos — and does not transmit anything to us or to third parties.
Sharing: You can pass on a composition together with its tones as a single file (extension .galino). This only happens by your explicit action and via the channel you choose (e.g. AirDrop, Messages or Mail) — the file leaves your device only if you share it yourself. Conversely, if you receive such a file, its contents are stored locally on your device. We are not involved in this exchange and do not receive the data.
Heart rate (optional): If you enable pulse-driven sound adjustment, Galino reads your current heart rate — on iPhone from Apple Health (HealthKit), on Apple Watch directly from the sensor, on Android via Health Connect or a Wear OS watch. The heart rate is used only in the moment to steer the sound; it is not stored permanently, is not included in any backup and is not transmitted to us or to third parties. This function is optional and can be switched off at any time; Galino works fully without it (you then steer the sound axis yourself). The system will ask you for permission — if you deny it, the pulse-driven function simply stays off.
Galino does not request any other special permissions such as location, camera or contacts.
Storage location: by default exclusively local on your device. Any data exchange happens only locally between your own devices: an App-Group container allows the Share extension ("Save to Galino") to hand a recording to the app; coordination between iPhone and Apple Watch runs directly over the device link. In both cases the data stays on your own devices.
This function is off by default — without your explicit activation, all data stays exclusively local on your device. If you enable iCloud backup in the app, Galino backs up your compositions, settings and own tones to your private iCloud (Apple iCloud/CloudKit, private area) and keeps them available across your own Apple devices or restores them after a re-install. The data resides exclusively in your private iCloud. There is no server of ours, and we have no access to this content at any time. Backup runs through your own iCloud account and can be turned off again in the app at any time. Your heart rate is excluded from this backup. The legal basis is the performance of the function you activated, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. Apple's privacy terms apply to iCloud storage; Apple is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
On Android, Galino's data (compositions, settings and own tones) is included in the automatic device backup that your Android system stores in your own Google account (Android encrypts this backup). This preserves your content when you switch devices or set up again. Whether your device makes backups at all is up to you in your Android settings (Settings → System → Backup); backup takes place there encrypted into your Google account. Google processes the backup under its own responsibility; we have no access to it and do not receive the data.
Galino is distributed via the Apple App Store and Google Play. When downloading and updating, Apple or Google process personal data under their own responsibility — e.g. your Apple ID or Google account, the time of download and device information. We have no influence on this and do not receive this data. Apple's and Google's privacy terms apply.
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. Since all app data by default resides exclusively on your device — and, if you enable it, in your own iCloud or your own Google account backup — you can view, edit or delete it yourself at any time: by uninstalling the app (removes local data), by turning off iCloud backup in the app (iOS) or via your device's backup settings (Android).
