This website is hosted by Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA; delivered through Cloudflare data centres in the EU). When you visit it, server log files are processed automatically (IP address, timestamp, pages requested, volume of data transferred, browser and operating system identifiers). The legal basis is our legitimate interest in the secure and uninterrupted operation of the site, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Retention: We do not store these log files and have no access to the raw data. Cloudflare processes them solely to operate the site securely and deletes them according to its own retention policy, generally within a few days. No further analysis is carried out by us.
Transfer to the USA: Cloudflare, Inc. is based in the United States. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework; in addition, we have a data processing agreement with Cloudflare that incorporates the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR). Cloudflare's privacy policy is available at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
ritrovo was deliberately built without any server infrastructure of our own. There is no user account, no sign-in and no automatic transfer of data to us or to third parties. By default your entries stay solely on your device.
What the app processes: Photos (from the camera or your photo library) of labels, bottles, dishes and moments, together with the details you enter or that are derived from them — name, rating, note, date, place and the names of companions.
Text recognition and barcodes: From your photos, ritrovo reads the name via text recognition and detects barcodes. Both run entirely on your device (on iOS via Apple's Vision framework, on Android via Google ML Kit — both on-device, without cloud processing).
Where data is stored: Solely on your device. Without the optional iCloud backup (see section 4), there is no sync and no transfer to any server.
Camera access: Used solely for taking photos within the app. The images are saved to your entry.
Photo library: You can import photos from your photo library into ritrovo. For images captured with the camera, ritrovo by default additionally saves a second copy to your own photo library — in full quality and only there. This copy stays in your own library; it is not read by us and not transmitted to anyone. You can turn the second copy off in the settings.
Companions / people: You can record who you were out with by creating them as a person and selecting them. To do so, ritrovo does not access your address book/contacts. These names are personal data that you enter yourself; they are stored solely on your device (or in your iCloud, if you enable the backup). If you also use the sister app gaho (golf) on the same device, the people list is shared between both apps via a common, on-device store, so you only create a person once. This too stays solely on your device — no transfer to any server takes place.
Location data: ritrovo can record the place of an entry. The location may come from the GPS data (EXIF) contained in the photo or — if you allow location access — from your current location at the time of capture. To display a readable place name (e.g. the city), coordinates are sent to the operating system's geocoding service (on iOS, Apple) and converted into a place name. Location access is optional; without it ritrovo still works, just without a map location.
Map service: The map view loads map material via a map service — on iOS via Apple Maps (MapKit), on Android via OpenStreetMap. For technical reasons, your IP address and the visible map section are transmitted to the respective provider (Apple Inc. or the OpenStreetMap Foundation) so that the map tiles can be delivered. The privacy policy of the respective provider applies.
Notifications: ritrovo can remind you locally about an open moment. These reminders are scheduled on your device; no push messages are sent via a server.
Sharing / export: When you actively use the share or export function, an image or a backup leaves your device only to the destination you choose yourself (e.g. another app, AirDrop, email). This happens solely on your instruction.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract / use of the app's functionality). Optional functions (location, iCloud backup) are enabled by you via the respective permission or setting.
ritrovo offers an optional iCloud backup. It is off by default and must be actively switched on by you.
When enabled, your entries (including photos, details, places and companion names) are stored in your own private iCloud container at Apple and synchronised between your devices. The data resides in the private iCloud area linked to your Apple ID; we have no access to it and do not read it. It is processed by Apple as a technical service provider; Apple's privacy policy applies in addition.
You can switch the backup off again at any time and delete the app's iCloud data via your device's iCloud settings.

ritrovo is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play. When you download, update or pay, Apple or Google process personal data under their own responsibility — such as your Apple ID or Google account, the time of download, device information and payment data. We have no influence over this and do not receive that data. The privacy policies of Apple and Google apply.
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. Because all app data is held solely on your device (and, if you enable it, in your own iCloud), you can view, edit or delete it yourself at any time — for example using the delete function inside the app, by uninstalling it, or via your device's iCloud settings.
